Need help installing casters [message #2874] Wed, 25 June 2003 15:35 Go to next message

I recently purchased some replacement casters for my 2-15 cabinet and installed them with regular sheet metal screws. When I hauled the amp across a parking lot to a gig they all ripped out. How can I mount them more securely. Thanks, Brian

Sound like its time to replace the screws with some small bolts.

That was my first thought, but after removing the back of the cabinet there's no room inside for the bolts and nuts through the existing holes.

Hi. Kustom originaly bolted the casters to a aluminum 1/8 strip with was inturn than wood screwed to the cab bottom with at least 8 screws. If you bolt your casters thru the bottom use a 3/8" washer on the in side.

Thanks Steve. I opened up the cabinet back and did not see any way to run bolts throught the original holes. However, I do see other holes on the bottom of the cabinet. They must be for the metal strip the casters were bolted to.

Brian, From what I have here at home, the early ones didn't have the metal plates. I built a set from 1/8" steel, patterned after a set on a later cabinet. The plates have counter sunk holes, flat head screws, and nuts holding the casters to the plates. Then eight holes in each plate to screw the plate to the cabinet. Hope this helps. Thrill Bill
