Hey all, looking for your 2 cents on this: My '68 K-100 currently sounds really good, even with the kooky pair of 12" replacement speakers - one old peavey and anold radio shack. I have a chance to pick up a pair of '68 Jensens (silver housing) but I'm wondering how much replacing the speakers will help. It may be a case of "if it ain't broke...", but you never know.

Early on peavey used eminence speakers, I have one from a peavey amp its got a square magnet of about 8 inchs and sounds darn good.If the speaker has a white ink stamping that starts with 67 a dash and then 4 other digets, its an eminence speaker.Radio shack sold utah brand speakers for quite a while, most had a orange painted frame with aluminum voice coil cover. They sound quite good too. Now shack sells pionner musical instrument speakers made in china. I have 2 in my fender proreverb and they kick. They have a black frame, big 50 oZ round magnet with a vent hole in the back.If you are happy with the sound, don`t change. But if you can pick up any vintage Jensen that works for 50 bucks or under 100, you can resell them for a nice profit.Plus you can see how the sound while you have them.

Well, I didn't get those older Jensens after all, oh well. Here's my issue, I play my '70s Ibanez Les Paul bass through my K100's 2x12s and can't push the volume past 40% without overpowering the speakers. I like the sound the current speakers give at lower volumes, but I'm not sure they'll stand up to gigging volumes. Would anyone suggest that I mod the cab to 2x15 or should I look into beefier 12" speakers? Would 12"s even handle the bass at the K100's 50 Watts? Thanks in advance!

You will not fit 2-15s in that k100 cab, when they came with a 15 it was just 1. even if you could just about jam 2 15s in there the cabinet internal volume is too small to let the speakers work right. Unless you have, or get a 2-15 cab, the next best thing would be better 12"ers, some new eminence ones with a VAS spec and a 16 ohm impeadance like the parts express model 290-437.

I see on the 15s. I really like the cab, so I'll look for better speakers. I'm not familiar with VAS, but I think I follow that the 2 16 OHM speakers wired in parallel should work with the K100. Thanks!
