Okay guys, here's some info on some bass 12" drivers: CARVIN also makes a nice bass 12 it's the PS12B, you have to ask for the B version. Eminece also makes some good bass 12's. They are the Eminence DELTA-12B 16 ohm drivers. Parts Express sells them for around $62 each and their part number is 290-415. They handle 300 watts each, voice coil 2 1/2", freq range 55-5,000 Hz. magnet weight 56 ounces. Let me know if you get some. :-) Deb

Deb
I have a 1972 K150-2 head (says output 8 ohms) and a 2 X 12 cabonet, 2-12G. I want to put 2 12" bass spekers in and am leaning toward the Carvins. Do I run into Ohm problems? I have diagrams of the parallel and series wiring plus Carbving gives good advice. Would this essentially make teh 2-12G cabinet a 2-12B for gigging?
Thanks
Richard

Thanks for the info; I'll look for some 12's and install them. Have not looked inside yet.I want to keep the amp as original as possible. I put my Telecaster thru it last night even though I'm not a "guitar" player, wow!, I never realized Kustoms were great guitar amps too; sounds like it would be great for twangy country, the vibrato is real neat, I played some Duane Eddy tunes.
Thanks for all your suggestions and advice,
Richard

Hi gang. Now that I have basicly finished moving a second time this year, and in about 2 weeks should have more spare time after work, I need to take to task this whole k100 4 ohm 8 ohm thing, From a sonic and a technical veiw. Yes I know as others do about the output circuit differnce, but once a speaker, eitheir 4 ohm or 8 ohm is being driven by a signal, its impeadance is always higher than its ohm spec unless the tone it is driven with is lower than its free air resonant frequency. So if a given speaker is made at 8 ohms, and its resonant spec is 70 hz( quite normal for a guitar speaker, a bass driver would be around 40hz) than if you play 6 string guitar thru this speaker, with said guitars low E string being now where near lower than 200hz I do not see where any harm may come to the amp. What I see is that the 100s have 2500 mfd filter caps on the 40 volt rails, and the 200s have 4500 mfd caps. So when you drop a k100 down to 4 ohms, which will normaly let a soild state amp output 30% more wattage, which will make the output stage seek more current from the power supply, those 2500 mfd caps can not cut it if the amp is driven hard. And the k1100s power transformer will be on the edge current wise at 4 ohms if driven hard. Its my take at this point that if you are looking for mabe 10 or 15 more watts, which will give you a little more head room at 4 ohms for 6 string guitar, than go ahead!Just to be safe I would set small box fan blowing on the back of the head.

Totally true in all that you said. I would add one more point. At the lower load impedance, the emitter resistors are too large for that load and the amount of feedback to the differential stage will cause some stability problems. A K200 has, in essence, parallel emitter resistors and the load impedance can be lowered to 4 ohms. I would contend the emitter resistors are too large and COULD be reduced to 0.5 ohms which MIGHT be more stable at 4 ohms. (I have not tested this theory so don't crucify me.)

I checked with my friend Bernie, at www.bltsound.com, and he sells the Eminence Delta 12B's for $60 each, or $57 each if you buy 2 or more.

Pretty sure - I believe the 12B"s are 16ohms - it's the same model number (Delta-12B) that Deb found at Parts Express. I got some Delta-15B's for my Kombo organ, and they were 16ohms. (Great sounding speakers, btw).
