K200B head - What are the ohms? [message #830] Sat, 18 August 2001 10:45 Go to next message

I recently picked up a cascade K200B head. I used it thru a 4 ohm cabinet that I have, but I didn't play it for long because I'm not sure if 4 ohms is correct for this amp. I'm assuming the old Kustom heads used 8 ohm cabinets(?), but can I use it thru my 4 ohm, or should I just get an 8 ohm cab for it? Thanks!

To clarify, it's a K200B-4 head (with harmonic clipper).

Hey Art! The 200 series came with 8 ohm 2x15 cabinets unless you had a 3x12 or 3x15 which takes them lower. Kustom sold 200s with twin 2x15s so the 4 ohm is fine. I have run them at 2 and lower and have seen no problems.....but I am not an engineer so below 3.2 you are on your own! I like the tone better at 4 ohm. One of the best sounds for me is to run a 200 head with twin 100 series cabinets which also produce a 4 ohm load. A pair of 2x12 cabs under a 200B-4 is very nice! For guitar you can increase the tone range by using a bass 2x12 cabinet and a guitar 2x12 cab. To get to the point...4 ohms is fine for a 200. Brad
