Well, referring to my prior topic, I just opened up the newly acquired 3-12 cabinet. It is loaded with the Jensen C12N speakers. These were primarily for guitar, right ? Since I will be using this for bass, I may have to offer those here for sale and purchase something like the Eminence Delta's in 16 ohm. Would any of you be interested in the Jensen's ?? They seem to be in perfect condition and have the Kustom stamp on them. Only negative is that on one of the speakers, the lead from the jack was rewired, and soldered to the speaker. It should clean up with no problems. Another negative is that sometime in the cabinet's past, someone put black Permatex sealer on the back panel (why, I don't know !) So, this will have to be cleaned up ! Other than that - it all looks good ! Comments and (or) suggestions are welcome !! Philip Braud

What do you want for the Jensen speakers? Are they paper dust caps or the aluminum dust cap with the black dot? There is a collector in Vegas that is looking for one Jensen 12". Might be a way to sell a pair and move the third speaker.
The black tar like substance sealer on the back is actually the foam gasket material that has turned to tar like goo over the years. pleat

Pleat, they are the aluminum dust covers with the black dot. Could you PM or e-mail me - I will sell them, but have no real idea of their value. I would want to be fair in my pricing. My e-mail address is braud357_2@yahoo.com ---- thanks for the help !

The older I get the less I know, and surely the less I am certain of! I have a 3x12 that I have owned for 11 years. The jack plate is labeled CTS and the cabinet is loaded with large magnet KEI speakers. It works fine for bass. I have always assumed it was original. When I look in the literature section all I see are 3x12 Jensen cabinets. So now I wonder if there really were 3x12s loaded for bass or was mine changed some time in its life?? Or did I just miss something because it is 530 AM? How about it Pleat? BC Cool

In the color catalog supplement they list a CTS-equipped bass cabinet. It is in the picture on the top right of the page - the charcoal colored cabinets.

BC, brud357 is correct, they did offer that cabinet with CTS, Jensen, and Altec speakers. Photo's show the CTS cabs with paper dust caps.
September 71 when the slant face series came out, Kustom had phased out 3x12 and the other odd speaker combinations and changed the brand name of speakers, and offered paper dust caps in their 2x12 2x15 and 3x15 bass cabs and they called it special design speakers.
The guitar cabs in the slant face era has the aluminum dust caps and called them full range speakers. By that time, Jensen and CTS brands were gone. They still offered the upgrade JBL and Altec.
I'd guess that at some point the CTS speakers were blown, and since Kustom offered the lifetime warranty on speakers, they were replaced at a time when CTS wasn't offered anymore and replaced with the KEI speakers.

If your KEI speakers has the aluminum dust cap with the black dot in the center, I'd have to say that whenever the exchange was made, Kustom sent the full range KEI speakers.
In any event after 40 years, that is part of the charm of Kustom history, and to see what might have been changed out and items stuffed in the ports.

BC, I don't know the model number of the Altec 12" but I'd bet they were guitar speakers. If Altec made a 12" bass speaker, kustom would have given the option of ordering either model. JBLs were offered D130's for guitar, and D140's for bass.

Another Update ! Yesterday, I finished with the cleaning up of my 3-12 cabinet. I removed EVERYTHING from the cabinet (including insulation), and gave it a good cleaning. The grille cloth cleaned up great - looks brand new ! I reinstalled the factory Jensens, fabricated a new jack plate and wiring, and put new screws and finishing washers on the back panel. Hooked her up to my K200B-1 head and tried my Jazz Bass on it. It sounds really good ! I know that the Jensen's are not bass speakers, but, what the heck !! Now, I am "on the hunt" for a black 2-15 cabinet - to use with my K200-B5 head.
