What's it worth?
One like this.
http://www.kustomcollector.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/Piggybacks-1/RedK1001.jpg

Book says $550-$675.

But in the "real world", what would you offer?

Hard to say. I guess it depends on the actual amp, condition, model 1 or model 2 head, color, are the covers still with it. If it's a color and model you have been searching for and have been waiting for a long time, then I guess price is not so much a factor. If it's what you've been looking for, and since you can't order a 40 year old T&R amp in your choice of color, then sometimes you may have to pay more. I saw a red one like your photo that went for over 1200.00 and the next red one that came up on ebay with a starting bid of 599.00 I don't think that seller got a bid on his. If you look at what can be purchased new in the 5 to 6 hundred dollar range, chances are pretty good you'll be buying some made in China. I just picked up a red K50 last friday for 425.00 and drove to get it. I think it's the most I ever paid for a K50 but it is in great shape, near mint after I cleaned all the dirt and paint spackles off it.

There is a charcoal K100-1 head and Jensen 2x12 cab that has been sitting on ebay for 995.00 and I see he lowered his price to 895.00 or best offer.

This appears (by the photos) to be in very fine condition, with the covers and 2-12" CTS speakers.
Just didn't know where to start my offer.

Van, the K100-1 head is the one I prefer. The normal channel is fat and full sounding. The K100-2 head with the reverb and vibrato, the channel is voiced as a bright channel. Very thin and brittle sound for my ears. The CTS cab, with the K100-1 was sold as a bass rig. I've owned both of those cabs, one with Jensen's and the other with CTS. Hard to say which I liked best, both had great tone.
Anyway if the amp pictured is the one your thinking of buying, then only you know what you have to spend and if shipping is a factor, that will have some bearing on what to offer. Reds are cool, but I still think a silver in the same model is worth more, if the silver hasn't faded and yellowed, but that's my opinion.

I am the idiot that Pleat refered to that paid the rediculously high price for. Actually it was $1181. I waited more than 3 years to see a red K100 and then right after that one finished a second one came up and it sold for $599 with 1 bid. If you have a red one on the line, that makes 3 in a month or so. I'm going to kill myself. OK, I changed my mind. No matter what you pay for something, just be comfotable with what you paid. If I obsess over that $1181, I would go nuts. So I won't. Now I just need that black one.

Whoops, I didn't answer your question. A starting point would probably be around $400-$450. Reasonably, $550 to $650 might be in order. Red is very rare, but you have to like the gaudiness of it. In 1969, I wouldn't have even given red a second thought. WAYYYYYY to bright. Now, just cool!

Thanks Conrad.
Yep, we all have our moments.

Back in '79 I traded a beautiful Gibson ES-335 for a new Yamaha CS-5 synth.
Today that guitar's worth thousands. The synth makes a good door-stop.

I haven't looked at the K100-1 yet. Thought long and hard about it yesterday.
The economy at the moment has me real worried.

Where are you located?? I am still looking for a black K100. If you are close to me, Milwaukee area, and it is black, I might have to tempt fate. However, fates name is Linda and my life would be severely curtailed if I bought another one, but WTF. When I have a black K100, I will have all 7. Red was the hold out. Keep me informed.

I'm in Arizona.
I do have a restored K250-4. Not ready to let it go yet, but I could be tempted by the right offer. Smile

No, not quite right. I decided to collect all 7 colors of K100 amps. Kind of like the catalog pictures. Black is the last one.

Conrad, I may have what you are looking for. But to be honest, I'm debating about whether it should go to my son as a legacy or whether the 150-7 SC in cascade will be the gift. The B-100 I have is in black, in very, very good condition, and is fitted with the original JBL D-140F. Now you may not be looking for the 1-15. I'm not teasing you or shopping the amp for price. Your post just caused me to think about which amp will go to the boy (boy, ha! 32) and which will stay. Both are sweet and I just don't get to play them much. They are just fun to have and remember when. If not now, perhaps later. Anyway, there is a B-100 that I may part with down the line and I don't want it to go to someone who has no appreciation for where it came from or what it is all about. I frequent the site, just don't have much to contribute. Born and raised in Kansas, sold these amps in a music store in KC, and was always proud of Bud Ross, Chanute Kansas.

I already have 2 1x15 amps. Both will have JBL E140 speakers. I think the black should be another 2x12. Besides, the CFO of the family might reject this latest purchase. At least at this time. Also, I am unfamiliar with a B-100 model.

Sorry, mixing the 200 and 100 nomenclature. It is a K100-1-D 140 model. No frills. Like I said, not pushing a sale, not listing it or posting it anywhere. Just saw your yerning and let you know I had something in the ball park. Hope the CFO allows authorizes a complete collection one of these days soon.

Amazingly enough, I was just in DC last week and during the stay I went to Richmond and picked up the Red K100 that I needed to finish the color section of my collection. It saved the shipping. I have 2x12 cabinets in Cascade, Silver, Charcoal, and Blue. The Red and gold are 1x15's. I will now be very patient and find that perfect black one. I might go to Chanute in September. That is still a remote maybe, but I will just have returned from South Africa and I'll need a break.

Conrad, you have a nice mix of the K100's in the making. Not to tease you or anyone else, but I can't think of a better way to unwind and take a break, than to be in Chanute for the kustom konvention. Hang with Bud and the gang. You might even find that perfect black rig you need. It might be from one of the collectors, or a former kustom employee that has kept it their home since new. The collectors I hang with on daily emails have been busy, this week along, we've purchased a pair of black 3x15 Altec loaded siren cabs, a red K100-1 and 2x12 cab. A blue K100-1 head and 115 cab. A cascade K100 head and 115 cab. All the K100's are near mint, so we've been busy building the collection getting ready for Chanute. No telling what the rest of the guys are up to. In any event, it's great to see so many people out there that share our passion for kustoms.

I think I hinted to you that my wife keeps asking about Chanute. That is really strange. But if I am back in the country and not shuttled off to some other remote location, I certainly wouldn't mind meeting all you guys. And, the trailer is loaded and ready to go. That sounds like I've made up my mind, but I will know when I get in the drivers seat. I may have to hole up in some remote town but that wouldn't be new for me. Let's see what happens.

Don't miss Chicken Annie's or Chicken Mary's in the area. Ask anyone down there and they can tell you how to get to their favorite. Great pan fried chicken. You might have to drive a bit but then everyone down there does. Wish I could join you.

Conrad, you might just as well commit to making Chanute. I'm getting the idea that with the trailer loaded, the wife may make the trip without you, and swap all the amps for trinkets and beads, or a new wardrobe. I'm packing some trinkets to have on hand just in case.
