I recently added a Kustom Hustler Combo to my collection. I have a Kustom 250 Model 2 with a 2x15 cabinet. Both are in black.
My problem is how to correctly configure the 4x10 speakers in the Hustler COmbo. At the moment there are two Alnico type 8 ohm speakers with the silver cones -- they look to be original. THe other two speakers look to be no-name replacements with ceramic magnets - one large the other small. All four speakers are wired in series.
Is this the correct configuration? Is parrallel wired preferred? If I need to replace two of the speakers -- what's recommended?
Thanks very much for any advice or help that can be provided.

Hello. I assume all four speakers are 8 ohms and that the amp likes to see an 8 ohm load (I assume, I'm more familiar with K200's than the combos). The speakers should be wired in series-parallel so that the amp sees an 8 ohm load. Do a google search for "guitar speaker wiring diagrams" and you should find an easy diagram. If all four speakers are wired in series, your amp would see a 32 ohm load, which definetely isn't good (i.e. the (+) lead from the amp goes to the (+) on the first speaker, then the (-) on the first speaker connects to the (+) on the second speaker, and so forth). If all four speakers are paralleled, you will get a 2 ohm load (which also isn't good). This would be if the (+) and (-) leads from the amp connect to the first speaker and both leads from the first speakewr connect to the corresponding terminals on the next, and so forth.
If the speakers sound good and can handle the wattage, I'd say keep them. Otherwise, check ebay for similar vintage CTS or Eminence speakers, or maybe go for some new Jensen MODs or Ceramic reissues, something like that. Speakers are easily changable and affect your tone immensly, so sometimes experimentation can be fun. Just make sure you are using speakers of the correct impedance though. Good luck with the amp!

Thanks for the advice -- I think it needs to be series/parrellel as well. When I got the amp -- the speakers were wired in series - as far as I can tell -- which would mean that the amp would have been pushing 32 ohms -- if all of the speakers were at 8 ohms. I will have to get the meter out and check the two unmarked speakers to see if they are at 8 ohms.
Does anyone know if the KUstom Hustler Amp puts out at 8 ohms? My Kustom 250-2 puts out at 4 ohms into two 15" ALTEC 416-8B (8 Ohms each) speakers wired parrellel.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.
Bye-for-now.

I have tried the Jensen c10Q's in a K150-8 and a peavey classic; sounded awesome! These have the ceramic magnet......I would also recommend Weber speakers-----the ceramic power series I think.....high wattage and the tone is awesome! Get an aluminum cone for brighter tone too......Price is comparable to the othere---a bit higher.....
I think the new Eminence patriot series are very good too....
Good luck!
