Hello to you also!
Yes, you can play bass thru it, but it will only function well up to a certain volume level, if you are taking about just playing thru it for rehersing on your own, or at low band level it will work, but there is one thing to note.
The thing to note is that most 12 inch guitar speakers do well to go down to 70 hz in low frequency responce, where as a low E on a bass is near 40 HZ.
Just this difference alone will call for whatever amp you are playing thru to have a bunch of reserve wattage.
For example, if your amp was at the limit of its clean power output when you where plaing a open A note, the amps power section would then be called on for near 10 times that power to reproduce a non distored E note.
If you are playing a 5 string bass with its low B note down at 30 hz, than things are even worse!
In short low notes need to move alot of air and 2-15 inch speakers will always sound better for bass than 4-12s.
I would follow this rule, if your driving the 4-12 cabinet with a 100 watt RMS amp and your volume needs are covered well with the amp at half volume, then it sould sound ok on a low E note, but you still will stand a chance of over extending the speakers cone travel which will damage them over time.
If your 4-12 cabinet is rated for 200 watts, I would not put more than 50 watts of bass guitar output thru it to be on the safe side of things.
I hope this helps you out!
