I found a small shop that will sandcast aluminum handle inserts, and drill and tap for the screws to mount the insert to the strap part of the handle. This would solve once and for all the problems of kustom amps with the strap handle broken or missing. The inserts would long out live any plastic insert. One thing is being aluminum, you could reshape bent straps to the insert. If anyone is interested email at djt@chartermi.net Cost would be determined on the volume of inserts ordered. I'm hoping that we could get them for around 25.0 a pair.

Do you think they could make replacement knobs too? That would be cool if they could make aluminum knobs!

Anything is possible if one has enough money. Never gave much thought to casting the knobs.

Aluminum knobs would be a problem on some controls in differening Kustom models as the knob would conduct, and if you where playing guitar thru the amp and holding the strings you would ge a big buzz thru the speaker)s)!

Kool idea Pleat.

Were you thinking of having them painted or anodized?

Maybe anodized in matching colors! Rolling Eyes

Good to know, thats why I never claim to be a tech. I never would have thought of that issue. I know Acoustic and Peavey offered amps with aluminum knobs, but I think they used pots with plastic shafts.

I do have a anodizing company I use for my Tremorbender B sting Bender that I manufacture. The benders are available in satin silver and satin black. They could do them for 2.00 each. Colors could be done, but I don't think we would ever have a large enough order at one time to do different colors. If we chose satin black as the color it would keeps things a lot easier. It also makes it easy for future amps we aquire that needs inserts to just install the black insert. I'd hate to have some red inserts and buy a cascade amp that needs inserts and have to use red inserts.

OK, I was only kidding about the matching colors.
Black would look more original as well.

As for metal knobs, most if not all Kustom amps used metal shafts on the pots. The pots were all grounded to the chassis, so there should not be any problem with metal knobs, other than originality.

The only reason I said something about the knobs, is because I can't seem to find an matching knobs unless they come off of a donor.

I think somewhaer on this site they have found a place to get knobs. Smallstone electronics I think? Are you looking for the knobs with set screws or the push on style that the slant face amps used? I have some extra push on knobs.

The source for exact matching knobs for the K200 series amps is Small Bear Electronics.

I know that I posted a link last year about this.
