I posted in another thread about having a K200B-5 PA head in the shop. I had owned one a few years back and some low life broke in and stole it one weekend when we were out of town. I bought another one (chassis only, no T&R cabinet) that wasn't working on eBay. The intent was to get it fixed, of course. Well, 4 years later, I finally got around to it. My tech went through it, recapped it, replaced output transistors, etc. (Thanks to chicagobill for his help!!!). I brought the unit home, hooked it up to a fender bassman or bandmaster cabinet I have (the label is missing, so I don't know which it is. And the speakers have both been replaced so I can't tell by that.), plugged up my gretsch duo jet and hit the power switch. After that "notification of authority" which is just plain studly, I started adjusting the controls looking for "that sound". I had forgotten just how great these amps sound. And loud, of course. The mellow sound I get off of the stock Gretsch Dynasonics, combined with the tonality of that Kustom head is like homemade ice cream on a hot summer day. . . cool, sweet and mellow.
I still need a cabinet to mount this chassis in. I built one, but I want the T&R look, of course. I have never done upholstery type work before, so don't know if I could pull it off or not. I've got a Peavey TKO bass cabinet in excellent condition. The K200 is an exact fit width-wise. I'd have to gut the inside of the chamber to make it fit height-wise, but it would leave me room to stick 4-10's in it, or 2-12's. I have the 10's laying around, so I might just do that. That K200B-5 head in a cab with 4-10's should make for a nice combo amp, and could still use it as a PA head, by disconnecting the internal speakers on it and plugging in some external cabinets. Ideally, though, I'm hoping I can find a dead K200B-5 head, buy it cheap, put my working chassis in the thing. If that happens, I'll probably get the 2nd chassis fixed and stick it in that peavey cabinet.
I know this much. I love the sounds I'm getting from this amp. Anyone that thinks you can't get tube-type mellow from a solid state amp has never used a Kustom. And for what I do, it's got power to spare. And then some. . .
Anyway, I'm glad to back in the Kustom fold once again. I don't plan on leaving, again. ![Smile](images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif)

I agree about the pedal thing. The K200B-5 is really all most need with today's pedals. The amp will carry the load, the pedals can get you most of the sounds you want these days. I think the reverb on the Kustom is better than the digital reverb from the pedals, though. Just my opinion, and worth every nickel you paid for it. ![Smile](images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif)
