Hello out there -

I don't feel so bad not finding the reverb tank in my post on the repair forum. It isn't there!

Anyone know the original part number or a bona fide replacement option that won't fry an otherwise fine sounding amp?

Thanks! Derek

Derek:
Welcome to the board.

The tank you need to order is the 4FB2A1A.

Normally the tank is mounted to 2- 3/8"diameter aluminum tubes that screw into the top edge of the chassis. Just look at the tubes at the ends of the chassis to see what they look like. Instead of being pop riveted into the chassis, they were mounted with screws, so that the tank could be removed for servicing the circuits.

When you mount a new tank, you can replace the original tubes with new ones, or you can use some other strong, thin material to make replacements. The tank sits with the open side up and the "output" jack away from the power transformer. Before you mount the tank, cover the metal panel that sits over the filter caps (the two large cans) with some sort of electrical insulating material. A small sheet of cardstock or plastic will do, just something to prevent the metal from accidentally touching the top terminals of the filter caps if the tank comes loose or bounces downward. Cover the top of the tank with a cardboard cover to protect the springs and to help keep the springs from feeding back when the reverb is turned up. Kustom used a thin foam padded sheet to cover both sides of the tank.

Hope this helps.

Wow does that help!

Can't thank you enough, will try as soon as I get off this cruise ship gig - and will report results!

Thanks! Derek

The pan needs to be mounted up side down, this places the end of the pan that is prone to picking up hum the greatest distance from the power transformer!
Also when you get the new pan you can do some tweaking ( two things) that will make it sound better and extend its life.
(1)You will find that even when new the trasnducers will rock and slide around on there square iron core. This creates a loss of coupling to the springs.
Get some gel/gap filling superglue from a hobby or craft store and glue them down better to the iron core.
(2) the wires coming off of the RCA jacks and then going into coil on the core are prone to vibrating off whne the head is in transit.
Get some silicone sealer of any color and place a good size dab on each end of the wire so this vibration failure does not happen.
Be sure to place a good blob on the coil side as this is where they give 90% of the time, and this is the end where you can not resolder them on, although Acutronics will now sell parts to rebuild pans, its better off to not have to go into rebuilding in the first place!

Let me detail this more.
On the coil end, its the wires that come off the solder terminal and go into the coil that can not be soldered back on, so make sure to get sealer on the input wire to that terminal point and from the terminal point into the coil.

Thanks Stevem -

I will be following these guidelines to the "T" - hope they help others too.

And if you know anyone with a K200 B-4 of any color, I would either buy it or trade my K 200 B 1 plus cash!

Greetings from San Antonio, Derek
