I started checking out this site last year & thought it was cool, specially since I grew up in Chanute & played on Kustoms a lot when I was there. Bud used to loan us all of the equipment we needed, amps, PA's, guitars, etc. I bought a K200 B with twin 15" CTS speakers, mostly for nostalgia as I now play strictly through my band's PA. When I was reading about your convention's, I had the thought that it might be a good idea to have some kind of get-together in Chanute. I am willing to bet that there are still more Kustom products there than any other place on earth--seems like everyone has one or knows where there are some. There is a rather large pavillion there that is available--let me hear some ideas. One more thing that you might not know is that Bud started Birdview satelite's in Chanute after Kustom went wherever it did. Still see a lot of them in yards. Chanuteguy

We Kicked around the idea of going to Chanute but it has not happened yet. I am up for it! Maybe you could help us get it together....find some of the folks who worked there.....find a place for us to jam. (We love to play the Kustoms) Maybe Bud would like to see the town again! How about it folks??????BC

Yeah...Seems like we couldn't get it going this year for a guitar show get together. Why not Kansas? JO

Why not indeed..cept I'd be hung to bring my organ all that way...better start checking the map right now...and that's the real trick...do we have enough guys in driving range to put a good representation of rigs on the floor?

I would be more than willing to help in anyway that I can. I don't live too far from there & still know several people from there. Ah, but alas, this year would be a problem for me as the rest of my vacation is dedicated to 2 more festivals that I go to. I was thinking more about next spring - it does get cold with bad weather there some winters. If we get something together, I could run some ads in the local paper there inviting ex-employees, Kustom owners & interested people. The ideal place would be in the pavilion in Central Park (not that one!)I think the rent is cheap & it is about as big as a basketball floor & is pretty decent. Let me know what you think. There might even be 3-4 organs in town--who knows? I know some of you guys have contacts with Bud, it would be real cool if he would show up. Chanuteguy

As I recall Chanute is in the south eastern part of Kansas.....just one state between me and there. If the dates are favorable Fox and I could bring a trailer load. That is a start!BC

might have to rent a big ol van and wear out someone elses wheels as the last time I was in Chanute I had flown...but can't imagine showing up in the heartland without some tuck n roll of my own...next Spring would be nice...and maybe you'll have better luck than me getting hold of Fogerty... I left word everywhere I could for him, but no reply..offer for him and Crowe would be to quiety come and just be part of the gang for a day..no one else would know but us krazies... Bud mentioned that he has never gotten to meet John and always wanted to and say thanks for all the years of kustom support.

There is only one state between me and Kansas, well by the time I leave Houston and get outa Texas I dont count Oklahoma. I could make the spring better. Maybe I'll have a new old Kustom by then. I'm bidding on a black TnR, but everybody keeps outbidding me. Hey ET, the zztop pic was great. Sure liked that blue guitar you had.

ChanuteGuy and I kicked this around a few days ago...I am in Parsons, only 40 miles south of Chanute, so I would be glad to help out any way I can. Also just got new casters and a rebuilt JBL put in my black k200. Love that Kustom sound! Bill

Glad to see some interest in a Chanute get-together. I have emailed the City to get some information & will let you know when I receive a reply. Spring seems to be the time, but does anyone have any suggestion of the date? Some of that will depend on availability of the pavillion, but I am open. I think we still need more response--anyone else interested? By the way, my rig is a black K200B w/twin 15" CTS's & since it is the only one I have, they do sound better! Chanuteguy

Hello, chanuteguy, I have been to your fair city twice, way back when Kustom was gong strong, once in 1970 and again in 72. I have a few of my pictures on the site. Great town, but I had hair half way down my back then, I got a lot of stairs even in chanute back then. I used to sell kustom and it was a highlight in my life to go and see how the amps were made. I loved unpacking every amp we sold. Better than a new car smell. I would be up for a spring get together, I'm not sure how much I could bring, but it would be great. I have chatted with a guy out in chanute and even sold him a k300 pa head. Funny how that amp made its way back home. I just need to keep that weekend open so I don't book any gigs. After all these years of playing I came back to kustoms three years ago. Don

don't want to sidetrack to much..but I"m as serious about my guitars as I am about the amps...the blue one I'm holding you actually can't tell from the pic, but has an incredible tiger stripe flame...the guitar is a PEavey (yes Peavey) falcon custom from 1990. They are a strat config but with stacked coil pups, rosewood boards, great fretwork and a thick maple flame top on a poplar back. I've always said if PRS made a strat, this would be it. I have 2 of these with matching Tele (generation models) for each. my other pair are an amber flame top. If I could find more of these I'd buy em. I have some best efforts in the major headstocks as well so I feel justified in being able to say that of the couple dozen rigs in my arsenal my favorite guitars are these falcon customs. thought enough of them to bring to our nashville meet along with my tuck n roll. ok..back to our regularly scheduled program... let's go to Chanute this Spring!

If I mentioned this to my kids, we would be there in a heartbeat. We could bring some nice cascade pieces, and by then my PA would be complete and that will kick. The Fogerty and Crow angle would rock. I saw Fogerty on his Premonition tour and he used his K200 for only 2 songs. Maybe we could talk him into using it for all of his set. Conrad

I got an email reply from the City of Chanute & all they gave me was a number to call!!! Oh well, I'm going on vacation starting tomorrow & won't be back for about a week & a half with sore fingers. I will try to call them before I go, but if not, keep ideas coming & I'll let you know what I find out as soon as I get back. Someone get hold of Bud & see if he has any interest--yeah, Fogerty & Crowe would be cool, but let's not hold our breath too long (did that too much in the 60's, 70's, 80's....!). Chanuteguy

This is starting to rock! Springtime in Chanute...would that be March? (it is in the desert). 'fraid I don't know the seasons there. Dates? I'll start...March 15-16, March 22-23??? If that's NOT "spring"...how 'bout April 25-27??? Hey, JC...you got $$ left over? You buy the first round (apologies to ET). As the old saying goes...include me in (yo Roy!). Any other "west coasters" out there interested in "caravanning"?

Let's see...March in Southeast Kansas....Yep ya best bring your tank shirt and shorts, jeans and a long sleeve shirt, bear parka and long johns, and a rain coat. That just about sums it up--any kinda weather in March. April is a lot nicer, some showers, but May here is dyno-mite! Seriously, anytime is Kustom time. Hope we can get something together next year at Chanute. I just met a guy who used to work at the plant and worked in the service department--had lots of neat stories. There are lots of former employees in the Chanute area still, and loads of people who still have/use Kustom equipment. So are these Kustom bashes usually opened up to the public, or is it normally a private thing? Let's do some talking on this and see what everyone wants. I will call the radio station if we want a public thing. I bet they would be willing to help in some way. Let's get this thing rolling. Bill

more the merrier....getting the local employees in on this would just be fantastic...and pulling all the local kustoms out of the woodwork down there could be a real treasure hunt....sweating just at the thought of it!!!
