If any of you have Kustoms by a wall in a room adjacent to a street, I'd urge you to move them away from the street.

Today a stoned drunk ran a stop sign doing 70 in a 30, hit a car, went airborn, crashed thru my wall and window at chest level, and bounced back into the yard. No driver license, no insurance, on parole and probation for drug possesion and dui. Driver in hospital, no injuries in the house....My Kustoms got knocked into the floor.

The car came thru the window and hit the table I had my three 1969 Kustom K100C-8 4x10's sitting on....Knocked the amps into the floor and also a couple Fender American Special telecasters.....Amps appear to be undamaged; they power up & sound ok, no cracks in plexiglass; thankful for padded tuck n roll and thick padded carpet; teles were in cases, so no damage I have found.....However my 1963 Gates Diplomat mixing console's back was smashed in and only one channel works now. It powers up, but the right channel is out......

When I rebuild, I'll put it all in a room away from the street.....By the way, I have 3 chihuahuas, so I can't put the Kustoms on the floor to risk them chewing the tuck n roll.....I suppose if it were all in another room in the back by the ally the sanitation driver will go crazy and hit that side someday.

Let me guess, was the driver a illegal like the guy who took out my mint 78 Trans am back in the late 80s?

Good to hear you and your family are ok along with the Kustoms!

Don't know if he's an illegal.... must not be since he's on parole and probation and lives nearby....

the street is maybe 35 feet from the window/wall....here are couple pics:

Contractor says maybe $60,000 damage maybe more.....front door won't shut, ceiling in 2 rooms buckled down, one fell a foot.... cracks between bricks in various places in several places on the front of the house....roof buckled in front on top of house, sheet rock cracked in two rooms.... haven't had a structural engineer in the attic or on the roof yet.....

AC/heating unit is in the attic 6 feet away from where he hit the house and it's directly even to his impact point...All the AC/heat stuff was bolted to rafters....I can see boards broken and the AC/heating stuff has fallen down..,,gas company just said we have a gas leak and shut off the gas....AC unit won't come on.,,

My recording equipment didn't survive either..My 1963 Gates Diplomat console got smashed in the back; the right channel doesn't work now....and all the equipment on the right in this picture got knocked into the floor....

Well the good thing is that you and your family were not hurt.

Here in Chicago that would be more like $150,000 worth of damages. It may be that high where you are after all of the hidden problems are found. I hope the owner of the car has really good insurance or does Texas insure drivers rather than cars?

Probability wise, the safest place to put the studio is right back where it was. The odds that some idiot would crash through that wall have got to be ridiculously high, and the odds that the same wall would get run into have got to be unimaginable.

Dallas and the suburbs actually has probably the lowest housing costs in the country for a major city....,Our house is valued at $125,000.....1600 sq ft, built in 1957.....When I moved here in Feb 1995 the metro Dallas Ft. Worth area was 3.5 million..,,,it's 6.5 million now....

The house next door has been crashed into twice, the last time about 5 years ago and the driver was killed....,So I'll put all the music gear in another room.....

The driver was stoned & drunk, no drivers license, no insurance, on probation and parole for drugs and dui.,,,

In movies, I see cars hit another car from the rear and jump over the car.....That's exactly what this car did; I think he hit a high curb on an elevated area on my small lot which sent him over the top of the car into our yard and then bounced into our window chest high, then bounced back into the yard.... he did not hit the porch coming thru the window nor bouncing back into the yard.....one tire track on the porch, but not a scratch on the porch....

Estimate so far as of today, $90,000 damages...Probably damages will be full value of the house's value, $119,000 to $129,000.....But insurance is obligated to pay us up to $300,000 in repairs which is the insurance I bought...They don't pay market value, my policy is for repair value,,,,beams in the attic broken, roof moved back, entire brick front wall and a side brick wall will have to be replaced....the roof has to come off and ceilings will come down to build a new frame work, or whatever it's called.....Insurance putting us up in motel for 3 to 5 months or longer.....

Buy more insurance than you really need.....

But the only thing I really give a damn about is my Kustoms still work and no cosmetic damage...,I looked 10 years to find these in mint condition....

You know, nothing surprises me anymore. Glad your okay and so is your family......can't put a price tag on lives....material things can be replaced. Do like I did.....moved to the country.

Wait till its time for insurance renewal..........they will probably drop you like a hot tomato. I had tornado damage out here few years back to the tune of $35000. I now am considered high risk and played hell finding anyone who would even take me. We don't even want to talk premiums.

Hey with your rebuilding money you will be getting, put in one of those concrete rooms that is tornado proof. That should stop anything short of a tank coming thru.

Radio World ran this about my studio crash. They didn't mention the guitars or Kustoms or all the house damage; they are a broadcast radio station publication.

Sometimes the best thing to have is nothing eh? I hope there is some way you can get something from insurance, or better yet, their HIDE.

Slow to wit but worth the wait.
