First off, thanks for all the info this board provides.

I just bought a 200 B 5 pa amp.

I noticed on the other 200 question 4 ohms were mentioned for max volume.

Currently I only have a 16 ohm marshall cab, can I use this until I find a 4 ohms cab?

All 4 channels seem to sound quite different when I plugged it into my marshall cab BRIEFLY.

Should they all basically sound the same?

Can I use anything other than 4 ohm cabs?

When looking at cabs for sale the ohms are rarley mentioned, are 4 ohms cabs common?

I have Silvertone amp, I can't see the ohms rated anywhere, its a twin with a head that stores in the back of the cab, any ideas?

Once I figure my cab situtation out:

Can I split my signal and run all 4 channels at once...safely?

Is there such thing as a SIMPLE mod that would give me a dirty channel?

Thanks in adavce.

Wallace

You can run any impeadance from 4 ohms up to 16 ohms that you want with that head, they only difference will be inthe amps volume, and I do not know how loud you need to play.
At 4 ohms your amp will output about 90 watts RMS.
into 8 ohms it will do about 65 RMS.
and as a guess, into 16 ohms about 45 watts RMS.

The tone difference from channel to channel is quite normal as in these amps many of the componets that make up, and fashion the tone in each channel have a 10 to 20% tolerance.
Hence your tone could vari 10 to 20% from channel to channel.

Most 2-12 cabs are 4 ohms, some of cabs made to be use with tube type heads that use el84 output tubes could be 16 ohms.

your silvertone 1484 twin twelve cab is 4 ohms, I have the same amp and cabinet. Its very much like a Fender bandmaster with about 15 less watts.
If you are lucky enough to have the original jensen C12Q speakers in their be care full as your Kustom will shread those 40 year old nice sounding speakers real fast.
Those Jensens where only good for 15 watts RMS when new, and now with 40 years on them just from dry rot and the drying up of the animal type glue they where made with they could be ready to fall apart.
If they are original jensens I would pull them and store them in a sealed plastic bag, and then get different drivers in there.
The only problem with those silvertone cabinets is that the baffle board in made of 1/4 inch masonite(real cheap!)and does sound go to me at more than 30 watts or so.
The thing to do is to make a new baffel board out of 3/8 inch wood, and with the right size cut outs for the speakers,as that stock board has the speaker cut outs 1 inch smaller than they need to be.
You will need to remove and shorten the head locating stops on the board by the amount of thickness you make the new baffle board by.
One other way around it would be to make up several reinforcement blocks and glue them to the baffle board around ecah driver in a raidal fashion.

You can parallel you guitar into all 4 channels by means of a cord or with A/B boxes.
The easyest and best way to get a dirty channel is with a stomp box!

Thanks for the input.

Too late on the Slivertone speakers, they are original, but I ripped them years ago and got them reconed, they still sound great.

I think I am going to wait until I come across a 4x12 4ohm cab, I have all this new power, I want to push my new amp hard!

I have seen a lot of empty Kustom 4x12(maybe 10s) cabs for sale, the tall skinny cabs, none with speakers in them lately, would they be 4 ohm?

The stomp box comment is well taken, why create extra work?

Thanks again.

Since your marshall cab has 16 ohm speakers you could wire in a double pole doulbe throw rocker or toggle switch to reset the cab down to 4 ohms when you wanted to.
All of those tall Kustom cabs have faily low end speakers in them. be they the 4-12 model or the 4-10 model, I do not think you would favor them over the celestions drivers in your marshall cab!
