I've looked around and seen at least 30 ways of getting rid of the hiss on my Kustom K-200. (I dont really know too much info about this amp, I just got it used) I don't really want to go out to an amp tech and spend a bunch of cash. I'm just confused on what I should do personally. My amp hisses untill i tap a few of the knobs. Then it goes away, and slowly comes back. The polarity switch, (or i think thats what it is) has no real effect. I tried pulgging the two prong power chord in backwards and that didnt do anything. Any clues or suggestions? Thanks very much.

Hello, Hiss in a kustom, or any amp comes from the preamp. The polarity switch and going to a 3 prong ac plug will only help buzz or hum issues. The first thing to do would be to have the controls and the brite switches cleaned and lubed, most times that is all that is needed.

Do you know what a potentiometer looks like? These are what have to be cleaned out with contact/lube spray that you can get a raido shack.

No, I dont konw what that is.... I'm really pretty new to this. The only other amp I've ever used was a Marshall VS100. I never had to work on that. But I enjoy being involved with my sound. So what does it look like? Or should I just buy the schematics?

The schematic will not help you out. I would recommend you take the amp to repair tech/shop to get the pots and switches cleaned,it should not cost more than 25 to 30 bucks. If that does not clear up the hiss you wil have to take it to a tech anyway.
