It seems there is a vast amount of knowledge out there. Does anyone consider switching out the original speakers in the original K 100 2 matching cab with say JBL E Series 8 Ohm ones. I read someone else suggesting that 8 ohm replacements with the K 100 2 head would be a nice upgrade.

I appreciate all your input.

Mike

I personally love the E series speakers, but the K100 is an 8 ohm amp. It will work on 16 ohms with a little loss of power, which is actually beneficial. The amp will give more power than is needed for most situations. The 1x15 cabinets came with a 16 ohm speaker and it worked rather well. Kustom stocked 16 ohm speakers for most of their products so in the rare situation that only 1 speaker was used, the amp ran at 16 ohms. If you fancy the E120-8 speakers, then wire them in series and you will be very happy.

thank you, I have a 2 x 12 cabinet with my rig. apparently factory setup. Would guess my originals are 16ohm? What if anything would you suggest as an upgrade that would be like a plug and play operation.

I'm not a very good electrician. Smile

Celestron makes a 16 ohm 12 in speaker in their cream line. 75 watt total power. looks like it might work nicely with the K 100 2

Go to Antique Electrical Supply........they sell Jensen speakers. Look at the Jets 12 inch 50 watt speakers. Comes in 16 ohms and range looks pretty good for guitar. Priced at $80 each so that's a pretty good price. Maybe Bart will chime in and let you know what he thinks is good for guitar.

The Eminence Texas heat model in the 16 ohm version is the closest in sound to what a original broken in Jensen C12N would have sounded like in that amp.
The new Jensen C12N models need a good long break in session to take place before you place them in the cabinet!

Have we determined what speakers are actually in the cabinet? The speaker brand on the jack plate on the back of the cabinet is no guarantee that the brand of speakers are still in the cabinet.
JBL's would really add some weight to the cabinet and with the K100-2 head might sound really brittle or bright since that amp is heavy on the treble and not much bass.

If it's a K100-1 the normal channel has plenty of Bass!

The original post mentioned it's a K100-2 head.
