Hello Vintage Kustom Leaders and Fans,

I have purchased a K200B 1 amp and a x2-15B speaker cabinet and speakers from different sources. The speaker cabinet has a Audio Power Module KPN 200 - 0167 installed.

I thought that the K 200 amp would be compatable with the audio power unit, but I was wrong.

Looking for suggestions as to if I should remove or bypass the audio power unit or if there is another way that these units were designed to work together?

I use to have what i thought was a similar set up in the 60s and that is a poor knowledge base from which to work.

Any information that you can share will be greatly appreciated. It has been a long time to get this far and I would like to get the amp and speaker working.

Do you know what a x2 - 15B speaker cabinet with the KPN 200 - 0167 audio power module was orginaly designed to be used for?

Thank you,

RONE

So let me get this straight, you have only one speaker cabinet, and that's the one with what Kustom called a power module in it?

Those cabinets was for the later 1971 and up 250 series amps that you could up grade to a 500 series with the added self powered cabinet.

If you only have this one cabinet then you have a choise, either get a adapter cable to go from the RCA jack on the rear of your 200 head into the input on the powered cabinet, or remove the rear of the cabinet unhook it's speaker cable from the amp and unhook its input jack wires from the amp and the solder those speaker wires to that 1/4" jack that was the input to the amp.
Then your 200 head can power those speakers.

Note that most of those 2-15" powered cabinets that where sold where for Bass, so if your intent is to play guitar thru it, it may lack some high end to you.

PS, you can run the 200 head without a speaker load on it and no harm will come to it.

Hello and thank you very much for your reply. Yes it is only one speaker cabinet with 2 15 bass speakers. Thanks for the advice, I will disconnect the power supply and run directly to the speakers. I appreciate what you said about missing some of the highs, but I think I am already missing the upper frequencies as it is (lol), so hopefully it should be fun and good. Also good to know how that cabinet was meant to be used. Sounds like it could have been a beast.

I will make the changes and fire it up and hopefully report success soon.

Thank you again,

Rone

I have two of these speakers and I'm so curious as to how to get them to work together. Also curious as to the value of such a speaker. I can't find anything about them.

Hi Rone:
The audio power module you have (KPN 200-0167 was designed to work with Kustom amps that have a "line out" or "to power module" output plug.  The Kustom 250 series amps all had that feature.  If you don't want that unit I need one. . .
